July is possibly the most beautiful time of year to be two-wheeled in our fair city. But if you’re still not getting on your bike as much as you’d hoped this summer, here are a few reasons to ride.
We don’t have to tell you the benefits of commuting to work on your bike. You know you save money, the environment and reduce your stress levels. But what if instead of just saving, you actually made money biking to work? Rejuvenation, a local lighting and hardware retailer, has been offering such a program to their employees for nearly 16 years. Employees that bike or walk to work for half of their shifts get a monetary bonus on their paycheck for that month. The retail store also has a small fleet of bikes at their factory that employees can use on their breaks or to run errands.
Portlanders love coffee and chances are your wallet is filled with coffee incentive cards: buy 10 cups, get one free. But do you have your “bike to yoga” incentive card yet? The People’s Yoga at 3016 Northeast Killingsworth St. not only offers exceptional yoga classes at affordable prices, they also offer bikers a little extra perk. Bike to 10 yoga classes and get your 11th class free. You can use your free class yourself or give it to a friend.
If you haven’t yet made it to Little Red Bike Cafe (4823 North Lombard St.), now is the perfect time to make the ride out to the St. Johns area. When stopping in for breakfast (so worth it!) on your bike, you’ll get a discount on your morning coffee. And, if you happen to need a flat repair kit, they have those for sale as well. [Editor's note: Little Red Bike Cafe has closed its doors. Thanks for the update from bummer (Comment below).]
We know there are many other businesses offering perks, please email your favorites to portland@momentumplanet.com
